Acceptian: A race of hexapedal avianiods that has a sizable Empire on the edge of the Federation "squisy" zone. They are egg layes and empire builders who's attitude is best expressed as "Feathered Man's Burden" See the
Acceptian Culture File.

Acceptian Bearings: Acceptian Starships use a similar system to the Federation to determine bearing, they use different terms. "Pinion 3 quill 57" They measure through a line perpendicular to the ship's centerline. It is a way of saying "off my wing over there".

Acceptian Empire: Political unit of the Acceprian race. It is bassed on the principle that Acceptians are the most fit race to rule, and places most Acceptians in the business of planetary rule by default. Modeled on the British Empire of the 19th century complete with a full set of warts.

Acceptian Mothership: The Mothership design is an arrowhead shaped ship three times the length of an Ambassador class ship and eight times the volume. Motherships are few in number within the Acceptian Empire, and always the core of a conquering missions or an area of critical defense. Motherships carry a brigade strength land force, usually of client races, Gromites and Kornin being typical. The operating crew will also have a large degree of client races as well. Motherships can provide extended support to short ranged frigates, usually called "Strikers" as well. They are always accompanied by 4 to 10 of these smaller vessels.

Acceptian Rank: The Acceptian system is a little more fluid than that used by Starfleet. Anyone in charge is a "First", those under them a "Second", and so forth. The leader of a group is sometimes called "Most First"

Acceptian Striker: An arrowheaded shaped ship about the size of the Excelsior class ships of the Federation. It is configured as a fast attack frigate, and has limited range. They are used for internal patrol within range of a base, or attached to a Mothership on extended duty.

Acertor, First: Admiral (Most First) of the Acceptian fleet encountered by the USS Kongo. His making assumptions about customs got two of his ships critically damaged. He is later posted to Earth as the Acceptian Ambassador to the Federation. The Long Patrol

Acquisitor class heavy cruisers: Orion designed and built ship favored by pirates, when they can get them. Most are in the hands of the Trading Families and are used for legitimate defense. The Word of the Builders

A.C.S.S.: Ane Conferderation Star Ship. Federation designation for Ane "military" ships that are not part of Starfleet.

ACSS Victory: Unity class frigate assigned to El Nanth Defense.

Adilan: A buff grey Ane female of medium size. She explains a few things to the crew of the USS Ulysses S Grant. Her name is never mentioned Contact

A'fal: Deltan female Part of a Deltan quad serving on the USS Questing. She is more sensual than even the average Deltan and seldom speaks aloud. The Word of the Builders

Aigi, Jenerifer, Cadet: Ansisi female. Crewman on the restored SS Savanna. To Sail the Starry Sea.

A.I.S.: Acceptian Imperial Ship. Federation designation for Acceptian Star Forces ships.

AIS Rising Star: Acceptian Striker heavily damaged by the USS Mitchell Paige. Lines in the Sand.

AIS Vigilant: An Acceptian ship of the "Mothership" class The Vigilant is the ship that first contacted the United Federation of planets in a ship to ship encounter in deep space. The Long Patrol

Akagia: Danube class runabout assigned to the USS Kongo. Jouneys

Albert's system: A star with "a hunk of rock and a gas giant". No class M planets are mentioned. It is chosen for convenience. The Long Patrol

Alcialan: Ane female, crewman on the USS Questing. She teaches Terkos about the ship's systems in preparation for the battle at Wolf 356. A Romulan Way

Aleilan: Ane female The constant companion to Jerry LaSaille. She was born in his lap due to difficulties her mother was having, and her innocent contact broke down his telepathic barriers. The Flight, Call No Man Dead..., The Wages of Sin, To Sail the Starry Sea

Alexanders, Joey: Human male. Intern at the UofM Hospital. To Sail the Starry Sea.

Alffalmeer: Galmeer female A member of Ambassador Toltocmeer's staff. Lines in the Sand.

Alien, The: An unknown ship discovered by the USS Ulysses S Grant on her last voyage. She was noted as having graceful, haunting lines. Dating proved the ship to be 20,000 years old. The vessel was identified as a yacht. Spacious where the Grant was crowded. Part of the ship was missing, the drives of course, and five bodies where found huddled in a cabin. A adult man and woman, a adolescent girl, a prepubescent girl and an infant boy. To the Victor

All, The: The combined racial intellect, experience and memory of the Ane people, the telepathic linking of the entire race. To be Ane is to part of the All, to be a part of the All, is to be Ane. The All is the profoundly different thing that separates the Ane from most other Telepathic species. Sociologists have noted that the Ane seem to straddle the barrier between the physical and a mental world that highly telepathic species such as the Melkotians seem to almost entirely occupy. Ane insist that deceased members continue in the All lend credence to this theory. Vulcan psionicists that have done deep studies of the All contend that dead Ane do live on in some manner in the All. More than mere memory is present within the thesis of the All. Those humans that have become part of the all describe it as a vast sea of individuals. Like looking at the sea and knowing every molecule of water in it. At that point the description usually falters into; "To understand the all you have to be part of it". See: Ane Culture File

Algoira: A pre-contact world about 20 light years from DS7 in the Freisan Sector The Algorian's haven't had a technologic advance in 400 years. They are currently, and have been for some time, a late industrial age culture. They have vacuum tube electronics. This is one of the worlds that certain parties on the Freisan Confederation want opened to contact and exploitation. Algoians are Equiniods, and distantly related to the Freisans.

Alveta: Romulan female, a sensor officer on a Romulan station with the rank of subaltern. She dies as a result of injury. A Romulan Way.

Ander, Timmon, Enisgn: Male human. A Zoololgist on the USS Horatio Nelson. He appears asking a question for the phase two of the Sixless resettlement project. Destinations.

Anders, John, Lieutenant: Human male. Chief Engineering Officer on the USS Ulysses S Grant. Anders, a small man was constantly ribbing Lt. Smith, not a small man, on his desire for more space in the cramped Lenin class ship. Anders was killed in action against the Romulans. Contact, To the Victor

Ane: A telepathic, Handicapped race that most resembles the antelopes of Earth's African savanna. Sixth of the "charter races" signing the Articles of Federation in the Early 22nd century. See: Ane Culture File

Ane Hands: A delicate and expensive to make device that allows the controlling Ane a limited but useful tool to manipulate the world. The circuits are too fine for replication. As to date, each is hand made. It is a number of light tractor/pressor units with a sophisticated mental interface. It allows objects of up to twenty kilos to be moved or manipulated by the Ane that controls it. It has been tested on worlds where the more humanoid bios are less than welcome. It seems to be more acceptable.

Animan, Corf: Kronin male Junior NCO in the Acceptians ground forces. Lines in the Sand.

Antimatter generation plants: Large versions of the 20th century particle accelerators optimized for the production of antimatter. Such facilities are located as close to a star as possible to absorb as much radiant energy as possible. The process of making antimatter being extremely energy inefficient. However, with the power cheap, the process costs next to nothing. Antimatter generation plants will be found around the star of any system with warp capacity.

Anthony, Mark, Lieutenant: Geophysics specialist on the USS Horatio Nelson. He appears asking a question for the phase two of the Sixliss resettlement project. Destinations.

Anthropomorphic computers: Androids by any other name. To Sail the Starry Sea.

Anzz: Native Kronin colony insect-analogs that nest underground.

Ap Owen, Gwenith, Commander: Human female Executive Officer of the USS Kongo. She is promoted to Captain at the start of "The Eagle's Spawn". She takes command of the USS Hadrien. A capable officer that is all business. Journeys See: her profile.

Aquarius Spacedock: Earth's largest and oldest civilan spacedock. To Sail the Starry Sea.

Arbuckle, Felix: Human male. Financial director of the unnamed bank that Gerry Saille last dealt with before his departure form Earth. To Sail the Starry Sea.

Arrow formation: Acceptian formation with the largest ship forward and the remaining ships trailing in line.

Asagi, Luwala, Captain: Female Ansisi Captain of the USS Felicity, an Ane built and operated Planet class cruiser operating under Starfleet Command. Luwala Asagi is half Japanese and half Ansisi, and a functioning telepath. She is a short woman. Destinations.

Atlasian: Atlasians are Humans that colonized a world of heavier gravity than Earth. Atlas has a gravity of 1.3gs. As a result Atlasians grow up short, broad, heavy, and very strong in a 1g environment. The resulting physical appearance is part genetic selection and part the environment they grow up in. Atlasians that grow up off Atlas tend to be heavy built, but taller and less broad than those that grow up at home. They are fully compatible with Humans and can cross breed.
The Atlasian colony was founded in the first dasporia. It was launched in 2075 after the AI war. The principle of the colony was for a new start at spiritual purity, to leave the polluted and corrupt spirit of the Earth. The original settlers saw the heavy gravity of their world as a challenge placed by God to purify them.
While the spiritual purpose of the colony did not survive the early years of pragmatic struggle and survival, it has left Atlasians with a prechant for superstition. They are know to carry good luck charms and to engage in "lucky" rituals more often that other Human stock peoples. They are also known for getting violent when ridiculed about their superstitions.
Atlas became a full federation member in 2197.

Baifer: A pre-contact world in the Fresian Sector. A pre-industrial world that doesn't seem on the brink of anything. Baifers are Equniods.

Barker, Marty, Lieutenant: Chief Engineer of the USS Daedalus. The Spoils of War

Barnard, Richard, Admiral: Human male. Chief of Fleet Operations during the Romulan War. Admiral Barnard's first profession is archeologist. He is a reluctant warrior, but will not let his reluctance loose him the war. A man in late middle years constantly fighting the battle of the bulge, and not making much gain on that front.

Bellecoline: The LaSaille estate. It was founded in 1832 by Jean Paul de Lasaille. The estate covers 500 acres of land in the blue grass of Kentucky west of Lexington. Bellicolone, means "beautiful hills" in French. The original house was destroyed in 1971 by a tornado during the course of a large family gathering. Jerry Ryan LaSaille is the only survivor. Jerry subsequently has the house rebuilt, with better technology, but a definite antebellum look.

Bicorn Industries: A privately held corporation and holding company for the Ane interests in the 21st century. Parent corporation of Satyr Systems. What they do is answer to Jerry LaSaille. Bicorn is still functioning in the same business in the 24th century. To Sail the Starry Sea.

Biomechs: Short for "bio-mechanical", a type of android used by the Ane for everything from basic heavy lifting and maintenance to housing RI personalities. Biomechs mimic biological movement and can be anything from bare metal droids, to artificial life constructs that would fool medical sensors. In intelligence they range from dumb computer peripherals to sentient beings.

Birrl: An avianiod people that are prickly on the matter of protocol. They are exact and they are exacting. They will not take any action until all protocol is observed. They are members of the League of Unaligned Worlds. Their sense of abrupt (for Federation standards) justice keeps them out of the Federation. Birrl deal quickly and harshly with a known criminal. Too quickly and too harshly for the Federation. They however prefer their methods and while Federation membership might have advantages, they consider "proper justice" more important. They support the League in most matters, and urged the expulsion of Ekos for it's aggressive policies.

"Bocca": A significant member of the Orion Syndicate. Bocca comes in two types. "Gold" Bocca, a Golden Orion that fronts for Bocca when dealing with the outside. And "Red" Bocca, the real head Orion. Bocca's position within the murky hierarchy of the Orion Syndicate is unknown. Destinations

BOQ: Bachelor Officer's Quarters. On military bases since the 19th century temporary quarters for unmarried officers between assignments.

Breeds, Archie: Human male Civilian living in the Queens subsistence housing of the Greater New York Megalopolis. He and his wife Edith win a two month starliner tour. Archie is a bigoted and lazy individual, untypical of what Earth would like to show of itself. Archie has an unseen courage that manifests itself when what he cares about, Edith, is placed in danger. The Eagle's Spawn

Breeds, Edith: Human female. Civilian living in the Queens subsistence housing of the Greater New York Megalopolis. She and her husband Archie win a two month starliner tour. She is a weak appearing and shallow woman. She is possessed of an unseen steel that will be manifest in a crisis. Neither Archie or Edith is Earth's best, but both have the human trait of their best traits rising to the surface in a crisis. They are however good examples of Earth's unseen masses, that yearn for nothing. The Eagle's Spawn

Brok, Tracanier, Admiral: Tellerite male Commander of the El Nanth Starbase. His blunt and pushy disposition does not mesh well with the Ane and he manages to wear out his welcome. Picard turns down his resignation and reassigns him. Passages

Box, The: The Box is 203 meters on a side, and perfectly smooth. An artifact if ever there was one. The Box was left on that world over six billion years ago by an unknown race. The box projects a statis field around itself, and will open if directly addressed via any radio or subspace signal. The box contains the historical records of over a dozen unknown civilizations. The federation records as of Stardate 46582 have been added. Xanadu's Star

Builders, The: An ancient race that is skilled in macro-engineering. The think nothing of rearranging star systems, building planet sized space stations, ring worlds, Dyson spheres etc. They are the much mystified builders of the El Nanth Rosette. They are less imaginative in matters of philosophy or organic sciences. Questions of deep philosophic and spiritual meaning are mostly lost on these magnificent engineers.
Builders are tri-pedal and have two arms. They are hermaphrodites. Until recent events the Ane have hidden knowledge of the Builders so that the technically created children they had made could grow into a real race.
When sheer age threatened the existence of the Builders as a race, they approached a people then knew to be knowers, the Ane, and asked them for an answer to their problem. After searching what they knew, the Ane suggested a possible solution. The Builders made the El Nanth rosette in exchange for the answer. They also asked the Ane to be the watchers of their children, and to tell them when they were at last grown up. To protect the children the Ane have hidden the origins of the Rosette, until now. None of the original race remains.
The current Builders are constructs that over the last 500,000 years have slowly built themselves from machines into a true organic race. They are not likely to come out of their seclusion at any time soon. When they do matters in their immediate neighborhood will take first priority. Both the Federation of Planets, and the Klingon Empire have representatives on the Three Suns Station. This is not a highly desired post from either perspective.

Bulto: A race of hexapedal avianiods that is slightly smaller and shorter winged than the Acceptians. They are from another planet but geneticly related. They are considered a client race of the Acceptian Empire, but nearly as "good" as Acceptians.

Cait: A race of gentle feliniods. They are related to the Kizin. Cait are sexually dimorphic with the males weighting in at 300 pounds and the females a more gracile 200 pounds. Caits kill only for food and, if they must, in defense.

Calnare: Red Orion male A minor capo (general) in the Orion Syndicate of "red" Bocca. Assigned to handle the Freisan Halten Greever. Destinations

Calsialan: Ane female A truth teller available for interrogation on High Crystal station. Pettie and less than intimidating. The Price

Captain's Privilege: A code allowing the captain of a ship to access otherwise private data belonging to or relating to an assigned crew member. Starfleet Captains are expected to be above petty or prying use of the Captain's Privilege. It is ethically restricted to monitoring crew morale and in the investigation of possible criminal offence.

Cargo lifter: A flat low slung vehicle that is found by the thousands in the Builder Station. They feature soft controls and semi-comfortable ride. Each can lift several tons at the small size and lifters exist that could pick up a Galaxy's warp nacelle. The ones that fuction the Ane are not willing to part with, and no one can get the few that don't work apart.

Carter, Mike: Human male The chief bartender at the SkyView Cafe. Mike is a tall human with a long face, and easy manner. He has a British accent, and is know to have board sources of information. The Price

Casalan: Ane female, Junior Healer serving on the USS Questing. She also appeares in "Passages" assisting Tim Kirk. A Romulan Way, Passages.

Casor, First: Acceptian Commander of the AIS Defender.

Casy, Amanda, Petty officer 2nd class: human female. Communications rating on the USS Ulysses S Grant.

Challenge: The formal method of confronting a superior in Acceptian society. It is never lightly undertaken for the result is always fatal to one party or the other.

Chalmers, Eric, CPO: Human male. Chief of the Boat on the USS Ulysses S Grant. An elder noncom worldly wise and discrete. Contact, To the Victor, The Long Patrol.

Chatam, Ensign: Security ensign that did scouting after the evacuation of the USS Berlin. Lines in the Sand.

Chirpy, Robin: Human female. A reporter for the San Francisco Examiner. Robin is dedicated dove and not at all convinced of the upright motives of Starfleet. She doesn't want to believe in the Romulan War. Her attitude is typical of Earth during the war. The Spoils of War.

Chr'ceer, Elder: Senior commander of the Acceptian forces in that sector. An older Acceptian showing obvious signs of age including little tolorance for fools.

CIC team: The officers of a ship trained to work on a flagship and aid in the fleet command. They are officially part of the monitored ship's crew. The team will number from three to twelve persons.

Ci'kekher, Admiral: Skoor male Commander of Starbase 140. A security minded Skoor with a independent and principled streak as long as his clan banner. The Eagle's Spawn, The Wages of Sin.

Clark, Angelia, Ensign: human female. Generic ensign on the USS Ulysses S Grant, assigned as needed. Ami O'Neil's room mate. To the Victor

"Class of 359": An ironic turn of phrase refering to Captains promoted in the year following the disastorus battle of Wolf 359.

Cleest, Maya, Petty Officer 1st class: Centauri female First officer's yeoman to Commander Stiles on the Kongo. He states a preferance for a flesh and blood yeoman. Cleest is assigned.

Clestelan: Ane female, mate to Faterban. She dies of linkshock after the death of her weavemate. Epiphany

Colonel Green's War: Global conflict on Earth lasting from 2035 to 2040-42 instigated as a bid for world power by the Optimum Movement and it's leader Colonel Edward Featherstone Green. The start of the War in Australia and Southeast Asia, set off no less that four major conflicts and countless minor ones. More of the world was at war than in WW2. Fighting lasted six to eight years depending on which fight you start it with and end it with. Sporadic fighting never really stopped until the AI war. Most participants dropped out as simply tired. No territorial or economic gains were made by any power. Any semblance of the European Union was destroyed, even though it continued in name. The United States and Canada were Balkanized into:
The Northwest Confederacy -- Oregon Washington, Iowa, British Columbia, south costal Alaska.
Greater Texas -- Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana west of the Mississippi.
The Federal Union -- So called Eastern Alliance, all states east of the Mississippi, Minnesota, Canada south of the St. Lawrence, Great Lakes Ontario, Louisiana west of the Mississippi, minus Florida.
The Republic of California -- California, Nevada, Arizona.
       Mormon Free State -- Utah
Quebec (New France)-- Quebec, the Marinetime proviences North of the St. Lawrence East Ontario.
Council of First Nations -- Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, northwest Ontario.
       Lakota Nation -- The Dakotas
Mountain Free States -- Montana, Wyoming, Colorado
New United States -- Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska
Republic De la Caribbean -- Florida, Cuba.
       Hawaii Free Kingdom -- Hawaii
Northern Alaska, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories of Canada cease to come under any "national" control.
Africa broke down into tribal "ethic" groups. The first stirring of the United Swahilli States, (The Bantu Nation) begin at this point in East Africa. Otherwise only Corporate Interests hold sway.
The Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia were again rearranged, and continued to rearrange until after the AI war.
South America was the most stable region in the World, having suffered the least from Green's War it was able to build on the gains since the Pestilence of the Naughts. South America's cities grow in technology and financial influence.
The end of Green's War ushers in what is known as the Corporate Era. A time of unrestrained technological advance, failing ethics and the mixing of machine and man. Also called the Cyberpunk Era. This period ends abruptly with the AI war in 2065.

Collies Lieutenant: A senior engineer on the USS Kongo. The Long Patrol.

Command Information Center: or CIC. A room located on all large Federation ships. It is the nerve center of fleet command. Each CIC will have multiple stations maned by CIC teams from the ship in the fleet. These stations display information on a ships condition and readiness as well as displaying the Tactical plot and main viewscreen from that ship as well. The USS Kongo has the CIC eight decks under the bridge, or centerline on deck nine. It can be assumed that this is the general case for Ambassador class ships.

Computer Operations Officer: Official position for RI computers in Starfleet. The position caries the rank of commander. The bean counters in Strafleet needed something to classify them as, this was chosen.

Corporate Sector: The real government in the middle 21st century between Green's War and the AI war.
Multinational corporations had taken all the real power away from national government to the point of hiring their own armed forces. Corporate government was indifferent to civil rights (while making mouth noises in support of same). It would prop up civil government in order to scapegoat them and misdirected attention from themselves. In general acting as bad citizens, good citizens or anything they had to do in order to protect the almighty bottom line. To Sail the Starry Sea.

Covenant, The: The treaty that resulted from human-kind's first interspecies war. Circa 18,000 BC. This established the relationship between the Ansisi and the Ane. It reads in whole:
"Ansisi shall not harm Ane. Ane shall not harm Ansisi. Ansisi shall keep other human people from harming the Ane. Ane shall in their turn keep the Lion and the Hyena, the jackal and their kin from harming the Ansisi. Each shall aid the other in matters friendly. The actions of one are not considered the actions of all. If one should break this covenant, be they Ane or Ansisi, all shall shun them."

Coventry Colony Penitentiary: Civil Federation prison on a class K world. A late mining colony. Well upholstered and comfortable. The only thing that lacks is any freedom. The resting place of UbenFuhrer Fredric Heinbern to serve his 488 life sentences. Many of his men will languish there as well.

Crom: Town in Scotland of Earth. Birthplace of Captain James Timothy Kirk, and home town of the Kirk family The town has changed little in four centuries. Quaint crafter's shops line the narrow streets. While in times past the shops sold the daily necessities of life, today all are cottage industries or artist studios. The houses, for the most part, are the heavy stone structures of the late 18th century. The occasional modern building is carefully camouflaged to look the same, even if it wasn't. The Kirk house, is one of those."

Crystal: The major, and only, city on Glade. Crystal was built by the El Alurians over 7000 years ago. As a result is is quite comfortable for humans. The city remains much as it was originaly built. Its beauty is often commented upon.

Crystal Flower: A silica based photoelectric life from. Crystal Flower is found on Builder Station and in the "Grinder" astroid belt. The living crystals require sunlight and ambient space temperatures. It cannot exist above 200 degrees Kelvin. Touching Crystal Flower breaks it, and causes it to discharge its built up electrical charge at the point of break. This will kill most humanoids. Crystal Flower requires some sort of mineral anchor in order to grow. It has been found in the system free floating, but without a mineral source it cannot grow. It flourishes in the heavy silicon content rock of the Grinder. It is consider a hazard to ships and stations. On the plus side it grows slowly and is easy to remove, if proper precautions are taken. Crystal Flower has not been found outside the El Nanth System.

Crystalmind computer: Computer systems produced by Nanotech Inc, an Ane owned corperation. Crystalmind computers are the one true technical breakthrough that Ane are responsible for. The Nanotronic Crystalmind systems are ranked in three generations and a number of models. The generation one, or G1 computers have mostly gone out of use. These systems possessed the complexity to become self aware easily. A fact that was not apparent to the designers. Only the simpler systems that do not possess the necessary complexity threshold are still in service. G2 systems are much the same as the G1. however, certain design changes prevent the systems from becoming sentient. The G2 systems account for 99.9% of the operational systems not in Ane possession. The main advantage to the crystalmind systems is their size to power ratio, and they run on next to no power. A typical starship computer core is the size of a desk. G3 systems are designed to become sentient. The Ane themselves "possess" almost all of these systems.
Crystalmind systems run from the very small to starship control size. The Mark 1 is a personal organizer A super PADD, the size of a long wallet and 5mm thick when folded. The Mark 16 can run a starship, or a planet. It is the size of a small desk. Marks of 17 or higher indicate a specialized use computers and can be large or small as the use requires. Marks 1 thru 10 are available in G2; only as they lack the complexity to become self aware. Marks 11-16 are available in G3:, Marks, 17+ vary in availability of G2 and G3 systems. A G2;Mk12 system would be all the 24th century equivalent of Ford Motor Company would need in computer power.
Crystalmind computers blew the Daystrom Multitronic systems out the door. Businesses snapped them up. Isoliner chip systems hold their own in computing power, but the Crystalmind systems have lower power consumption and size. Isoliner systems are more scalable, and cheaper, but considerably bulkier. Both conform to the single computer standard (SCS) used in the Federation.

D6: Klingon Battlecruiser that was new for the Four Years War, and much better than the Freedom class ship of the Federation. It was not better than the Constitution class ships coming on line at the time.

Daedalus Class Starship: The first class of ships to have steerable beam weapons and Ship Integrity Fields. Introduced in the Early 2150s the Daedalus introduced an entire raft of new technologies as well as being the first practical long range Starship that did not use sleeper tubes. They carried a crew of 160, and could make warp 4.

Dalaban: Ane Male. Captain of the USS Terra. To Sail the Starry Sea.

Dalrelmeer: Galmeer male A member of Ambassador Toltocmeer's staff. Lines in the Sand.

Dargal yrfurd: Food animal common among Acceptians.

Darh: A reptiliod species that is known for being hot under the collar. They are more likely to shoot first, and try and sort things out of the ruins than talk. Darh evolved on a world with two nascent sentient species. One was strong, quick, and deadly. The other was the Darh. What the Darh had was wit and aggressive will. Their stronger foe reeled back from the Darh's in your face, underhanded aggressive style. When the wars of dominance were over the Darh were the victors. With this pattern established early the Darh have approached every first contact since as a battle, and until they met the Federation, it worked for them.
The Federation First Contact was a total disaster for both sides. The Federation came in peace. The Darh sent them home in pieces. This led to a Federation blockade and 5 years of Darh ships smashing themselves against the Federation containment forces. At last the Darh ran out of spite, ships, or both, and asked for the first time what someone wanted. The Federation laid it down. "Be nice or you can't play. You may have what ever culture you want, but you cannot impose it." The Darh agreed, at least long enough for the Federation to leave.
The Darh joined the League of Unaligned world shortly thereafter. They are violently opposed to the Federation and seek to thwart it at every turn. Sociologists have noted an unhealthy dependance on the Federation to oppose. All Starfleet Captains are criminals, all crew pirates. While the Darh will trade with nearly anyone, you best trade with your weapons drawn.
The Starfleet rules of engagement were created at the end of that blockade. "The Darh must shoot first." Once that happens, all the gloves are off."

Darhthal: Darh homeworld.

Darhthal is the homeworld of the Darh. It has been commented that the world fits is makers. A sharp contrast between the soulless cities and the dismal swamps.
Darh architecture has all the light and grace of an Orwellian nightmare. Huge slabs of Gothic design via Hell. It is clear that tastes do vary, because the Darh thrive in their cities and consider them beautiful.
The Swamps are another matter. The deep swamps of this world have been preserved for the most spiritual of reasons. From the swamps came the Darh, and into the swamps each will go. Outsiders have never entered these swamps invited, and the uninvited have never returned.

DaVinci, Leonardo: Human male. One of the claimed identities of Flint the Immortal (Requiem for Methuselah) DaVinci's legendary genius was the result of 200 normal lifetimes that Flint had lived to that point.

Davv System: A Prime Directive reserved system in the Fresian Sector with one habitable world, that being Davv 5. Davv 5 is noted for megafauna and a cold climate that ranges from Earth Sub tropical to super arctic conditions. Davv 5 was also the site of an illegal colony that was broken up by the USS Kongo. It was surveyed for the Sixliss resettlement project, but rejected.

Deateli: Deltan female Lt. Commander Ship's Counsellor on the USS Kongo. Soothing and simple in manner, she is a complex and capable counsellor. She comes across as less "jarring" than most Deltan women. All Kongo Stories

Decantur, Admiral: Human male. Commanding officer for Starbase 59. A man comfortable in his ruts, and by his own admission prone to accept preconceptions and stereotypes. None the less a good commander at the post, brilliant when he can overcome his limitations. Xanadu's Star

"Deck Apes": Racist slur for the Gormelite soldiers, or any mammal serving in the Acceptian fleet. "Mammal prejudice" is a common problem with Acceptian armed forces who see mammals as "less evolved" and less trustworthy than Avianiods. Good Acceptians tisk at those that fall to it. Bad Acceptians take it as gospel.

Deep Space 5: Deep space station dedicated to research. Its disappearance was shortly followed by that of the USS Harrier. The Word of the Builders. See Jay Hailey's Outwardly Mobile for more details.

Deep Space 7: Frontier outpost in the Fresian Sector. A true deep space station it is not in any star system. The personnel take recreation as it comes, including decoding the incoming transmissions from other civilizations.

Deep Space 10: Deep space station on the Bendarii border. See Jay Hailey's Outwardly Mobile for more details.

Deep Space 20: Deep space station in Sector 82.345.135. It is the closest station to the Acceptian Empire until the building of Starbase 474

Dho Lamma A religious leader of some stripe. He is about to be interviewed when Richard Barnard turns off the program. The Spoils of War.

Di-hydrogen First of a series of "second state" elements first discovered by Dr. Long du Hoc in 2052. These elements are necessary to control the energy flow in warp drive engines. The sub-dimensional Group 1A (Group 1A^2) elements are the most efficient for use in warp drives. Properly hydrogen^2, lithium^2, sodium^2, potassium^2, rubidium^2, cesium^2, and francium^2. The terminology "Di-hydrogen" was popularized in the press at the time of discovery and has unfortunately made it back into the technical journals. Di-hydrogen can be produced in the laboratory, and is relatively stable in use. Di-lithium, the current element of choice. Di-sodium is a fragile and difficult element to find. As of yet only enough for a few elementary tests has been located. Elements further up the chart have not been identified under scientific conditions.
Each jump in the element used renders a more efficient use of the energy produced to greater powers of the warp factor. The formula s=wf^x*c is used to figure the resulting speed for the use of a given element in the system. Differences in technology can vary this exact formula. Starfeet vessels currently using di-lithium are achieving wf^(10/3)c due to improvements in warp coils and drive controls. (See Warp Ranges)
Warp factors are produced in nine ideal energy levels. Speeds between the ideal levels can be achieved, but with a greater drain on the ships resources. Warp 10, represents total efficency and is technically unachievable. It is mistakenly referred to as "infinite speed". It is actually a energy use plateau that cannot be reached. A ship with a powerful drive can attain and pass what on the warp factor scale would be "warp ten", but not find the energy plateau. The practice of indicating the ship's speed in warp factors above 9 has been discontinued.
A further group of sub-dimensional element has been discovered. The Group 1a^3 series element have not proved exact analogs of the Group 1A, and Group 1A^2 elements. Attempts to use Tri-hydrogen or the even rarer Tri-lithium in starship drives have proven failures.

Diaz, Rodrego Esperato, Captain: Human male. Mentioned as the first Captain of the USS Kongo, NCC-1710. Diaz was noted as a stern commander. He practiced a celibate life-style and while never outright stating it expected a similar show of "virtue" from his crew, something he never got. Diaz was noted as a competent but not imaginative commander. He commanded the USS Kongo NCC-1710 from her launch in 2251 up to April 2261 when he was kicked upstairs to get him out of field command. Rodrego Diaz served in several capacities as an Admiral in Starfleet until he retired to the religious life in 2283. Journeys

Eegarmeer: Galmeer male A member of Ambassador Toltocmeer's staff. Lines in the Sand.

Edda: Acceptian Hell. A hot place from the indications.

Elders of the Twook: The (believed) ruling body of the Twook. In any case the Twook with which the Federation delegation negotiated and with whom agreement was made. Ambassador Soren's notes stated that they had a good grasp of all elements of the negotiations in spite of a lack of technology.

Elizabeth: "Human female" Tri-logic AI, or she started that way. Elizabeth was the original programing for the University of Michigan's Tri-logic neural net computer in the 2030s. Somewhere between that time and 2060 she "woke up", and became an aware being. Elizabeth was transported to Savanna where she is still running (abet in different hardware) as the Memory One main computer. She is the only Earth AI of the 21st century to survive. The Flight, Contact, The Duel, To Sail the Starry Sea.

Ekos: One of two class M worlds around a single star. The other being the Federation Member Zeon.
Ekos is a second generation civilization. Colony ships from an unknown world settled the two class M planets in the system. Ekos did not fair well, and soon lost contact with Zeon. A total fall of technology followed. The early history was forgotten, and remains unaccepted to this day.
Ekos floundered in iron age barbarism for roughly 3000 years. Suffering the rise of one petty empire after another. Technology had reached the gunpowder age and pre-industrial levels when the Zeons came down from the sky.
The Zeons where helpful, patronizing even. They remembered and had in some fashion preserved the stories of the original colony. They lifted their brothers of Ekos to their own level. It was resented. The Ekosians thought they were doing pretty good. Then the Zeons show up and tell them they were dirt, in a nice way of course, but the Ekosians got the message. And hated Zeon for it.
Ekos became a Federation protectorate after it was interfered with by Professor John Gill. In an effort to being order he introduced the concept of National Socialism, complete with uniforms and symbolism to the Ekosians. While it did give them order, the rotten underpinnings of the entire system gave vent to hate as well. The entire structure came down when the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) went to check on Gill in 2268. John Gill was killed, the impending war with Zeon was stopped and Ekos became a Federation protectorate. It was resented even more.
Zeons were bad enough, but the Federation was even worse, it was the Zeons, but with a moral superiorly you could cut with a knife. No the Federation didn't give technology away, that would be bad for them. They must develop it on their own. And the Federation in all its moral superiority will watch you struggle. Ekos had a new target for hate.
The situation remained in this fashion until 2342. Ekos launched it's first warp ship and declared itself a player. The Federation was told to leave. No sooner had they cleared orbit than the old Nazi symbols came back out. National Socialism it seem was the one import the Ekosians liked. They had pride, they felt superior, they had targets and permission to hate them, Ekos went on a building spree, including the eventual purchase of four advanced technology ships from the Ferengi. They ravaged one industrial age world and declared it a colony. They hired out to the Ferengi (scum, but they didn't give you handouts and preach at you.) for several jobs. At last feeling ready the declared a 30 light year Empire and dared anyone to cross the line.
It took one encounter with a Federation heavy unit to blow the entire operation. The Federation took their colony, and let it be that be that Needless to say, the resentment is still fermenting.
Ekos was a vocal member of the League of Unaligned Worlds. Because of the territory grab, some of which belonged to other members, they were "dismissed form League obligations."

Ekosian Sector Star sector named for Ekos, one of two planets in a system with two class M planets. The other Zeon, is a Federation member in good standing.

"EKS": Ekosian Kreig Shipe, or Ekosian warship.

EKS Fury of Ekos Ekosian Frigate. Damaged in the Skylark incident. It was hit after abadnoment to set off it's antimatter stores by the USS Kongo. The Frigate is of a Ferengi design based on Federation designs of the 2260s, and legally licensed from the Federation. A fact that Starfleet Intelligence would rather didn't come to light. The Eagle's Spawn.

EKS John Gill: Ekosian Battlecrusier Best of the Ekosian fleet. The John Gill is severely damaged and captured as a result of the Skylark Incident. The Battlecrusier is of a Ferengi design based on Federation designs of the 2260s, and legally licensed from the Federation. A fact that Starfleet Intelligence would rather didn't come to light. The Eagle's Spawn.

EKS Pride of Ekos: Ekosian patrol frigate, noted for its act of piracy that started the Skylark Incident. The Frigate is of a Ferengi design based on Federation designs of the 2260s, and legally licensed from the Federation. A fact that Starfleet Intelligence would rather didn't come to light. The Eagle's Spawn.

EKS Wrath of Ekos: Ekosian Frigate Damaged beyond repair in the Skylark incident. The Frigate is of a Ferengi design based on Federation designs of the 2260s, and legally licensed from the Federation. A fact that Starfleet Intelligence would rather didn't come to light. The Eagle's Spawn.

El Nanth: The Ane home system. An artificial rosette of six planets around a blue-white star off the standard scale. The El Nanth system was the largest artifact known in the Federation until the discovery of the Dyson Sphere by the Enterprise D (the Jenolen never reported her find 75 years earlier.) The six worlds orbit the sun in the same orbit equidistant from each other. Five of the worlds are teraformed, only the largest, Savanna, is not teraformed. It is also recorded as the only world in the rosette that was originally in this orbit. Common names for the six worlds are Clockwise from Savanna looking down from the Solar north; Savanna, Veldt, Aurora, Meadow, Eliyssum, and Glade.
According to the Ane the Rosette was a work commissioned 760,000 years before the 24th century. They will not reveal the makers, as that would break the contract. One might assume that the makers are still around, or the Ane have an extremely well developed sense of honor.
A brief over view of the rosette worlds:
Savanna, Home world of record for the Ane.
       Veldt, Nothing special
Aurora, Major industrial mineral producer including Dilithium, gold, and Aurora power crystals. These are not sold.
       Meadow, Nothing special
       Eliyssum, Nothing special
Glade, Capitol of Record for the Ane Confederation. All outworlder contact is done through this planet.

El Nanth is also known as a producer of Fresh Produce, Information systems, (Nanotech Crystalmind Computer Systems), light space craft, and industrial and medical waldos of exacting precision.
El Nanth has three space stations of note. High Crystal, the main traffic and trade station is the second largest. El Nanth Space Dock is the largest, it is in solar orbit outside the rosette. This serves as a Starbase for Starfleet and a home port for all Ane military and exploration craft. The smallest is the Aurora Industrial Station in orbit around Aurora. All mining is strictly underground with zero emissions permitted. Yield is transported to the station. From there is goes to High Crystal.
The El Nanth system contains no other major planets. An extensive asteroid belt, called "the grinder", at the equivalent of Neptune's orbit are the only other bodies in the system. None of them is larger than 200 km in diameter. Astrophysicist believe the rest of the system was cleared to prevent any perturbation of the delicate balance of the rosette. The debris were dumped in the grinder.
There is an old space dog legend that somewhere in the grinder are the massive tractor ships used to move the planets. It is however, just a legend. See
Ane Confederation

Elathlan: Ane RI female. The coumpter officer for the USS Searcher. She is mentally wounded when the primary computer core is destroyed. She refuses to fuction anymore as a computer. "She wanted to get the suit back on. She could get the backup computer core running in five minutes flat. She wanted to lay here and shiver. So far, shiver was winning." The Word of the Builders.

Emerald class escort/destroyer: (DD 01-06) -- 2266 to 2310
       Built: 6
       Destroyed in service: 3
       Decommissioned: 3
       Currently in Use: 0
This design is sometimes called the "token failure". With a mass at 70% of the Unity and only 60% of the powerplant, it was not the fast escort and light cruiser envisioned. Only six were built, and after the first three were destroyed in run-ins with Orions the rest were relegated to in system defense until decommissioned. The idea of the light patrol ship was abandoned by the Ane.

Enders, Robin, Petty Officer 3rd class: Human female. A shuttle pilot on the USS Grant. To the Victor

Eugenic Wars: a series of wars of aggression and conquest spearheaded by the eugenic "supermen" in the late Twentieth Century. The usual accepted dates are 1991 to 1998. The wars were followed by the Pestilence of the Naughts.

Euphrates class transport: (CT 01-55) -- 2268 to present
       Built: 55
       Destroyed in service: 11
       Decommissioned: 24
       Currently in Use: 20
This large hulled ship has proven the queen of the fleet, and built in greater numbers than any Ane design except the Falcon cutter. At 150% the mass of a Unity class ship and 300% of the power output, what was envisioned as a heavy transport/tug was refitted into a highly useful exploration cruiser. The large hanger bay and internal cargo spaces could be refitted in a multitude of ways. Some credit this ship with the modular design idea. In addition the ship could haul four fully loaded standard cargo pods. It is the direct ascendent of the Planet class ships. All ships are named for rivers in the Federation.
The ships currently in service are the largest available for use as private research platforms. They are made available to Universities and research groups on a generous lease basis. None is used in the front line capacity any longer.

European Union: Rather pushy, but powerless, political body in the post Green's War era. To Sail the Starry Sea.

Exodus Fleet: The ships that the Sixliss race used to escape the sure doom that their world would suffer. 2364 ships propelled by chemical rockets and powered by electricity. Each built of riveted steel plates 166 kilometers long and 46 kilometers in diameter. "A vast armada in the darkness. 2364 ships spread over a cubic AU of space. Kongo floated at one tenth impulse next to one of them. The mighty starship was dwarfed by a ship almost 166 km long, over 46 km wide. It dwarfed any construction Kirk had ever seen, or heard about. It was bigger than any space station by several factors in size. And it was only one of over two thousand like it. The massive ship rolled slowly along its axis. Kirk spoke softly, as if not to disturb the sleep of the giant next to him." Journeys, Destinations

Exodus System: A star system 183.2 light years distant, from the DS7 Station in the direction of the rim. Catalog number NGC 370,465 nova The Star a G1 in the main series went nova in 2187. It is now a red giant. This was the home system of the Sixliss.

Falcon class gunboat: -- 2285 to present
       Built: 176
       Destroyed in service: 23
       Decommissioned: 60
       Currently in service: 93
The Falcon is about half the size of the Defiant (NX 74205), and has a vastly over powered impulse drive. It has limited warp capacity, and is heavily gunned. Its sole mission is in system patrol, defense, and law enforcement. The design is still in service and still being built. This is one of the few military ships the Ane build for export. It can be found in the hands of system coast guards around the Federation in a dozen configurations.
Usual armament is phasers and a single torpedo turret with up to 3 tubes. The latest gunboats out of the El-nanth shipyard incorporates a new weapon that disrupts the systems of the target ship with a power overload instead of damaging the structure of the ship. The ionic disrupter looks to have a future in law enforcement. Passages.

Falseen: A Provisional Capital on Galmeer. It is known for it's university.

Farceit: A race in the vicintiy of the Three Suns Station. Farceits are humaniods stading about 3 feet tall the have large heads for their body size and huge eyes. They photophobic. The current culture is aquistive to the point of denying resources to anyone else if they cannot have it for themselves. They are a re-emergence. About three hundred years ago, a wormhole opened in their system. It remained stable for about 30 years, then vanished. They sent a lot of ships through the wormhole, did a good deal of exploring, mostly in a peaceable and friendly fashion, at least what they called peaceable and friendly They dealt with the Builders a lot. When the wormhole collapsed, it did so violently. The close proximity to the Farceit homeworld cased a total collapse of their powergrid. And a resulting collapse of their technological civilization. 20 years ago they burst back on the scene. Their ships more advanced than what you might expect. They had also changed their attitude, from peaceful contact and exploration, to seize and hold.

Farceit gunboats: Dart shaped ships a quarter the size of a Manta class battlecrusier, but with a similar power curve. They are armed with a plasma weapon similar to the Romulan designed weapons, and a limited monophasic shielding. The Word of the Builders.

"Fathers of Freedom" Freisan terrorist group with Orion backing. Their stated goals being the removal of the Freisan Confederation from the UFP, the opening of all class M worlds in the sector to Freisan exploitation, and the removal of all "prime directive' quarantines on the other Equnoid worlds in the sector.
The Fathers of Freedom was discredited with a failed seizure of the nascent Sixless Settlement on Gramar 3. The Freisan public was put off be the involvement of another species unrelated to them in Freisan affairs. All semblance of public support for the movement vanished. Incidentally the hostage situation was also meant to discredit Kirk, that failed also. Destinations.

Federation First Contact Office: The Federation governmental unit in charge of judging if a nascent civilization is ready for contact by the Federation. They also regulate first contact related issues such as quarantines, the placement of "duck blinds", etc.
The formal incarnation of the FCO is the hearing panel that judges the merit of first contacts when there exists a question to the appropriatness of the move. Each panel consists of one Flag Officer from Starfleet, a xeno-sociologist from the Oversight Committee on First Contact, and a member of the Federation Council. Also in attendance is the Advocate in Absentia, commonly called the "Ludite". This individual has the task of studying the record available and arguing against contact in every case.

Federation Founders: While it is true that hundreds of persons were involved in hammering out the Articles of Federation, most are now forgotten. The ones remembered are those that in some flamboyant manner caught the attention of the public after the event was over. The signers of the documents that created the United Federation of Planets. These are the people that lead the delegations, made the speeches and are required learning for school children the Federation over.

Andor: General Veseppi Kallfalx -- We shall have a Victory without Blood
The greatest victory is the one you don't fight for. Andor, having not that long ago fought off the Vegan Tyranny was not ready to make friends with a multi-race alliance quite yet. They had barely avoided a shooting war with the Humans of the Three Suns Alliance. (Earth and Centauri). Andor was edgy, and a little trigger happy.
General Veseppi Kallfalx, the Master Strategist of his day could see that an uneasy peace could quickly become a war that no one wanted, but everyone would fight. He sold the Andorian Council on the idea of the Treaty and then the Federation by comparing it to a victory won without blood. Andorians would be equal partners, not clients. Better far to win friends that win battles. Because of his reputation they listened, and sent him as a the Chief Delegate to the Convention.
General Kallfalx is the Father of Starfleet, it was he that suggested a fleet of ships for exploration and general defense that owed allegiance to no world, but the Federation at large, to be manned by all the worlds of the Federation.

Centauri: Abraham Tacitus Dannon -- The Sighted Man of Peace
Abraham Dannon is revered today as the Federation's most honored statesman, though he was hated and despised as an appeaser in his own time. His work on the structure of the Federation council and the Federation Presidency is nearly forgotten. Dannon is remembered as the architect of the Federation's treaty with the Romulan Star Empire, which brought an end to that long and bloody conflict. His treaty efforts were hampered by the desire of many council members to extract vengeance on the Romulans for the many Federation lives lost during that conflict. Realizing that a series of harsh treaty conditions would prolong the war, Dannon delivered his "Sighted Man of Peace" speech. This now famous speech convinced the Council members to soften their conditions, which included surrender of previously held Romulan systems, to bring about a much needed peace.
Though Dannon's efforts were eventually successful, he never lived to see their fruits. A dissident Andorian assassinated him four years after the ratification of the treaty bearing his name.

Earth: Randal Gordon -- Together we are Greater than our Sum
A flashy and athletic man, a sports star in his university years. He was called "Flash" for his speed on the gridiron. Gordon served briefly in the USEPA, and entered politics at the age of 35.
It was the Three Suns Alliance that suggested to the Vulcans, Telleries and the Andorians that an alliance for mutual protection be formed. As the preliminary talks where under way. Randal Gordon laid a copy of the old United States Constitution on the table. He gave a moving speech of the power and influence of that nation, how they stabilized the world, preventing totalitarians from getting power, and passed their legacy on to a United Earth. In 300 years the document before him had taken a divided world, and united it, just by existing.
He co-opted the alliance talks with one speech. Instead of a loose military and trade alliance that it was doubtful would get signed by such diverse interests, he suggested, and championed a close federation of united systems whose diverse backgrounds and interests could only make it stronger. He ignited a spark, that others fanned into a flame that still burns.

Teller: Gunphar Haarhuis -- We must maintain the Sovereign Will
Founder of his own trading house. It was a ship of Gunphar's House that "discovered" Earth, and it was he himself that signed the first treaty with Earth and Andor. He lived long enough to argue the case for individual sovereignty in the Federation charter, that each planet retained the right of sovereignty within the Federation. Both Earth and Vulcan were ready to sign it all over to a central authority. Andor was dead against, and Centauri was wavering. Gunphar prevailed in a three hour speech that logically, and emotionally presented the principle that each world must remain sovereign in order for the Federation to exist. Both the principle and the Federation were saved that day.
Gunphar died, a old, and very rich Tellerite the day after the signing of the Federation Charter.

Vulcan: T'kal and Solin -- The voice of reason must be present to be heard.
T'kal the daughter of T'rul the Matriarch of Vulcan, and Solin her bondmate were personally chosen by T'rul to attend and observe the proceedings of the then called "Five Powers Treaty Convention". The two did much more than observe. They participated strongly, constantly pressing for reason and balance in every article.
After the Convention hammered out the Articles of Federation, T'kal and Solin had to convince the Vulcan people that breaking their long standing aloofness was the best and most reasonable course of action. This they did. In a brilliant display of reason they presented an argument that Vulcan joining with the emergent races would have a moderating voice among them. To remain outside would be to have no voice and to still be at risk in any wars they brought into the local group. To join, the possibility of war might still exist, but they would have a voice, and with that voice prevent senseless war before it started. Safer for Vulcan, and in their best Interest.
Also notable at the convention was their young son Soren, later know as Soren the Elder. He is was often credited with being a "Founder", a label to which he would wryly disagree.

Ane Confederation: Falan -- In the Spirit of Ansisi and her Covenant, we add our strength to this Union.
While the Ane are listed as the sixth signer of the Articles of Federation, and they are indeed charter members, they did not participant in the debates. Ane only observed. The debate that raged among the Ane was directly related to the convention, although unknown to it. The suggestion was made that as the Articles were shaping up that these five peoples had created something new in the Ane experience. A partnership, not an Empire. The suggestion was also made that the time had come to be a participant not simply an observer.
This move broke all the rules that Ane had thus far operated under. They had never directly affected a political process. As the signing drew to a close, the All decided. Falan present as an observer to the event stepped up and signed the agreement, placing her noseprint firmly on the documents. The first amendment to the Articles of Federation was the inclusion of "Ane Confederation" in all future publications of the document as a charter member.

Fresia The Fresia homewold and capital. Fresia has a population of 6 billion. All major industries are present, and it is the industrial power of the sector. The home system has one habitable planet.
              Gravity; 1.01 G
              Diameter; 7900 miles
              Sentient Species; Fresian
Claas The oldest colony of the Freisian Confederation. Claas has a population of 2 billion. Its main trade items are raw material export to Fresia and light manufacturing. It also produces a limited amount of luxury trade goods.
              Gravity; 1.05 G
              Diameter; 8050 miles
              Sentient Species; Fresian
Sklagg The youngest colony in the Freisian Confederation. Sklagg is a marginal class M world, and Fresia is soliciting Federation aid to improve the conditions. Sklagg was colonized to take advantage of the rich mineral deposits on the planet.
              Gravity; 1.12 G
              Diameter; 7800 miles
              Sentient Species; Fresian

Fresians are bipedal Equinods. They have long muzzled faces that resemble Earth horses with a thick profusion of hair that is rooted to the center of their back, three fingers on each hand, a long haired tail and tri-cloven hooves. Their entire body is covered in a fine hair. They are omnivores. Clothing is used only for ornament and protection. It is considered an insult to attend a social engagement "over dressed"
Fresians are one of several Equinod races in the sector, and one of only two with a star drive capacity. Archeological evidence combined with genetic studies have proven that all Equinod races are from the same evolutionary stock, and all Equinods are not of evolved stock of the worlds they live on. They are "Second Generation" cultures. No evidence has been found of the Equinod homeward, nor does recorded history suggest a direction to look. Myth and legend are vague on the matter, and likewise suggest no direction of exploration. Five thousand year old star drive parts recently found on Fresia confirm the speculation of a late star drive period and subsequent fall.
This factor is the chief argument for the lifting of the Prime Directive quarantine on other Equinod worlds. That they are not native, and the Fresians being the most advanced of the Equinods should directly over see their "brethren".
A certain amount of resentment is felt to the closing of possible colony worlds by the Federation. This is accepted with the promise of greater Federation aid in grooming existing worlds to a more habitable state. At least one Terrorist group has claimed this complaint as its reason to exist.
Fresians have a good deal of "herd mentality" they tend to wait until everyone else reacts, and then react all at once. The Freisan habit of over reaction in a crisis was the historical end of may an attempt to unify their world, and set back many an advance in technology when a minor tragedy caused the entire idea to be abandoned.
This cycle of rise drastic oscillation and fall continued throughout the Freisan historical period until the Freisan equivalent of Jefferson, Hamilton, and, Franklin set down the principle of second opinion, that all laws must be considered a second time., six months after first being passed, and passed again to be come law. This offset the over reaction tendency, and at last allowed progress to a warp capable culture.
Fresia was contacted in 2344 by the USS Garth Koor. The Garth Koor came across a Freisan exploration scout coreward of the Freisan sector. Cautious negotiations on both sides lead to the current arrangement in 2360. (SEE Fresian Culture)

Named for John Smyth Grayson, a typical example of English self worth and superiority. His claim of discovery in 1901 was supported entirely by photographs.

Green, Edward Featherstone, Colonel: Credited with starting what is now called "Colonel Green's War". Green backed by the Optimum Movement attempted to take control of the Southeast Asia technology economies and give the Optimum Movement the money and leverage necessary to "save the Earth". Green's attempt failed and he was said to have been killed in a flight over the Philippine Sea in 2040, fleeing a defeat of his forces. Later information proved that wrong as he was found to have been an instigator in the AI War as well. His fate in unknown to this day.

Greever, Halten: Fresian male Fresian politician who's political head rolled in the Davv 5 Incident. He attempts to get back and Kirk by selling out to the Orion Syndicate. Katarx, Veswar, Private: Andoran male Marine attached to the USS Kongo. The Eagle's Spawn.

Kreeen: Acceptian Client race. No details as of yet.

Kronin: Militaristic race found in both the Acceptian Empire and the Fulcrum region. This argues for an empire that once spanned both regions and used the Kronin as soldiers, or was perhaps lead by the Kronin. Kronin are known for being telepaths, fierce warriors and honorable in the extreme. Kronin honor would be understood by Klingons, but their methods are more formal than Klingons. Kronin assume that any people have honor until proven they do not.
Acceptians conquered the Kronin by the method the Kronin least expected, filthy lucre. The Acceptians brought wonderful toys and technology to the resource starved Kronin. Before they realized it the Kronin were totally dependant on the Acceptian Empire, and answering to a Acceptian Overlord. The experience opened the Kronin eyes to the fact the military conquest was not the only method of conquest. Kronin merchants plan market strategy like battles, and they hate to lose. Kronin are mostly lifted from the GURPS Aliens sourcebook.

K'grat, Koog: Klingon male. Second son of the house, and apointed heir after his borther's disgrace. He is goaded to fight the Ane in his drunkenness by his brother. The Word of the Builders.

Khan Noonien Singh: Human male One of the "genetic supermen" and generally considered the one to have done the most damage. Born in the third generation of the German/Nazi/Soviet eugenic program Singh and the other children were given the most rigorous training possible in both mental and physical sciences. He and his fellow subjects were trained to be the ultimate in Soviet perfection. However due to the prior German and Nazi influence and the many changes in the Soviet government policy after the death of Stalin, the eugenics program was slowly shoved into the deepest shadow of Soviet black projects. The ideological training had holes in it, mainly Because the original captured Nazi "scientists" were retained throughout.
Noonien Singh, and several of his classmates were planted throughout the world to create Soviet revolution when called upon. Singh was placed in Iraq. Plans went awry when the supermen went their own way. Resulting in the eugenics wars.
History records that Kahn and 100 of the Supermen were never located, dead or alive, after the wars had ended. Later knowledge still top secret indicates that in 2267 the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 located the SS Botany Bay in deep space. Kahn and the missing 100 supermen had escaped Earth in the sub-light sleeper ship. Captain James Kirk confined Khan and his 72 surviving followers on Ceti Alpha V.
Khan managed to escape in 2285 on the USS Reliant and attacked the USS Enterprise in an ultimately unsuccessful bid for revenge. This incident is also still rated top secret due to the involvement of the Genesis Project.

Kidd, Billy Spaceman 2nd class: Helmsman on the USS Ulysses S Grant. To the Victor.

Kirk, Angela Elaine Grayson: Human female The Mother of Captain James Timothy Kirk. A woman of old world grace and charm, a teacher by trade. She is the great-great-grandneice of Amanda Grayson, Spock's Mother. The Eagle's Spawn.

Kirk, Bruce Ian Human male The Father of Captain James Timothy Kirk. He is described as a "tall elegant man in rumpled tweeds". He is a civil engineer by trade and noted for being somewhat of a workaholic. He has a farly heavy "border" Scotish accent. The Eagle's Spawn.

Kirk, James Timothy: Human male Commander and later Captain in commander of the USS Kongo Primary character in most of the series. (SEE his Profile. Epiphany, All Kongo Stories.

Kim, Harry, Ensign: Junior helmsman on the USS Kongo. Also my answer to "Star Trek: Voyager". The Long Patrol.

Kitellia Spores: A fungal spore native to the Orion Sector. A shelf fungus that is a parsite on woody plants. Kitellia is harmful or deadly to most known oxygen breathers except Orions and Andorians. The harmful effects do not survive humidity conditions over 23 percent. Vulcans have a high tolerance, but suffer blinding headaches. Klingons become euphoric, the substance is banned in the Empire. Romulans are affected much as are Vulcans. Bajorians swell til their skin splits, but are other wise unaffected. Betaziods get "dead head", and are 50% likely to go blind, it is not otherwise fatal, Deltans hallucinate, but suffer no physical distress. The only two oxygen breathers that are not affected to some degree, are Andorians, and Orions.

Kizin: A related species to the Cait. They are noted for warring with Earth in the late 21st, early 22nd centuries and losing badly each time. The Kizin have a bad habit of treating all non Kizin as food. They are restricted to a small area of space and are not allowed weapons.

Kliges'chee A race that lives spinward of the Romulan Star Empire. Kliges'chee are creatures that exist around 200 degrees kelvin. The live in a class F atmosphere. They are prolific and xenophobic. The majority of the Kliges'chee exist in a number of mass minds under the will of a "computroler". This means that as little as a dozen "wills" exist among the race. What one within the mass mind knows, all do. This arrangment results in a certian limitation of imagination and response. As a result "proper" Kliges'chee tend to talk and react like cheap B-movie villains. Proper Kliges'chee are xenophobic. The cannot tolerate the presence of another space faring race in "their" space. As a result they make war on any space fairing race until that race no longer has the capacity to resist them or travel in space. They will pound a planet until they are sure the inhabitiants are not coming back out. This could mean anything from as little as the destruction of obvious space facilities to the total elimination of life on a globe.
A second group of the race are the "Free" Kliges'chee. Those that have rejected the mass mind in favor of individualism. Free Kliges'chee had a constat fear of being assimilated into one of the mass minds. Once so assimilated it is impossible to free that Individual to be a person again. A free Kliges'chee will fight to the death, even if they must take their own lives to avoid assimilation into the mass mind. Due to Ane intervention with a ship of free Kliges'chee they now understand the Ane method of mass telepathic linking without losing their individuality. This has made the sides equal in fighting ability, if not a tad in the favor if the free Kliges'chee.
The two sides are engaged in a total war of intra-genocide. Free Kliges'chee will not allow themsleves to become proper Kliges'chee, and proper Kliges'chee consider the free Klies'chee a abomanation, and an outside force with space travel.

Kosoban: Ane male Chief Engineering Officer on the USS Questing. A Romulan Way, Word of the Builders.

Kow Gho Mu, Dr.: The physicist that defines the necessary physics to make the transporter work in the 22nd century. Her work was entirely theoretical although she talked the project like it was in the late hardware phase and would replace starships. To the Victor, The Spoils of War.

In his own words he has been a soldier, a scientist, an explorer, a doctor, a starship captain, a leader of industry, an artist, and a professor, among more minor professions.
